About Twin Coast Metrology

Twin Coast Metrology fills in the gaps of the 3D metrology world. There are literally dozens of companies catering to this world, but Twin Coast Metrology stands apart for three reasons: specialized systems, transparent hardware design, and guaranteed solutions.

First of all, all of the companies in this industry seem to want to make the "magic system" that can measure anything, anywhere, to (almost) any degree of precision. As a result, they build in software tools to accommodate the "general-purpose" nature of the hardware, and sell it to as many customers as possible. They sell the same systems into automotive, aerospace, tooling, propulsion, heavy machinery, machining, animation, design, reverse engineering, and other applications. Those that have had to try to make these "general purpose" systems work in the real world have learned quickly that, although they work admirably on a wide range of applications, the "general purpose" nature of their design means they struggle with certain tasks that a purpose-built system might perform effortlessly. This is perfectly fine, because a general-purpose tool can be valuable, and that is what they're designed for. Our mission is to design metrology systems specifically for these "unfilled gaps". These "gaps" are particulary present in the production manufacturing world, and as a result our specialized systems often find their way into production, high-performance, and highly-automated installations.

These mission-critical installations illustrate the second important characteristic of our company: transparent hardware design. Rather than design a "general-purpose" system, we work with you and present a range of hardware options to trade off on your application. Some customers need fast cycle times, high accuracy, low cost, small form factors, high automation, easy operator accessibility, or other priority design factors. By presenting hardware as a series of options, you, the customer can evaluate the options, and make the right choice for your specific requirements. Since we don't mark up hardware, you benefit from industry-leading performance at actual cost. For example, recent designs and installations have included 16megapixel and 50 megapixel cameras, which are unheard of in the "general-purpose" marketplace as of this writing. The "general purpose" market may not see these cameras for many years, but you can install them today if it makes sense for your application. In addition, since you know what hardware is going into your system, it is easy for you to support, and redundant or replacement components can be purchased directly from the supplier, if necessary. This hardware-transparent approach also means you can purchase software site licenses for your entire organization, at only incremental Commercial, Off-The-Shelf (COTS) hardware costs for each new installation.

Finally, our solutions are GUARANTEED. Yes, they are guaranteed on a NIST, ISO, or ANSI-traceable artifact using standard metrology practice, but they are also guaranteed to meet the specifications for whatever they're measuring. This means your part, in your environment, under real-world conditions. This guarantee is virtually unheard of in the optical metrology industry today, and is a large factor in your success! Because each of our systems are built for a specific application, we stand by the performance 100%.

In summary, our purpose-built, hardware-transparent, guaranteed systems excel at the applications they are designed and built for. With our growing line of innovative 3D metrology technologies, we are dedicated to providing solutions for new and existing challenges.

Thank you for reading this short description of our fundamental corporate beliefs. We hope that you, as a metrology expert, continue to monitor our progress and observe the new products we bring to the exciting marketplace of 3D metrology. If you have a measurement application in mind that doesn't "quite" fit in the the realm of off-the-shelf metrology systems, call us today at (310) 709-2308, and ask for Eric. We look forward to hearing from you.
